About Us

The Li River Retreat is a family run hotel. The owners are Mingfang and Alf Exposito

Mingfang

Mingfang is from the Guilin area and moved to Yangshuo over 10 years ago to practice and use the English that she had studied in the Foreign Languages School of Nanning. Mingfang's role at the Li River Retreat is to manage our staff and to take care of the general business side of things. She tries to spend some time each week behind the reception desk to keep in touch with the running of the Retreat. She is also very busy looking after our two children.

Alf Exposito

Alf is originally from Wollongong, which is just outside of Sydney in Australia. He left Australia to travel the World and during his travels ended up in China working as a tour leader for a British travel company.

He has been involved in tourism in China since his arrival in 1999 and has been giving great advice to travellers through his information website for Yangshuo -yangers. Alf's role is to answer most of your emails and you can find him most afternoons having a quiet drink at the Sundowners Bar on the rooftop at the Li River Retreat. It has to be the most relaxing place in Yangshuo with the best views

James

James was born in 2004 and has been attending kindergarten in Yangshuo for over a year now. His role at the Li River Retreat is to run around and cause as much mayhem as possible. Luckily he only comes to the Retreat on some weekends and we take him down to the Li River for an early morning swim.

Chloe

Chloe is the new addition to the family. Her role is to keep her mum, dad and grandma dotting all over her. She does this role to perfection

Our Staff

Flora

Flora is our manager and has been at the Li River Retreat since we opened. Her role is to make sure everything is running smoothly and that our guests are happy

All our other staff, whether they be our receptionists, waitresses, waiters, cooks, cleaners, etc. are here to make sure you have a great experience
